Peabody Students, Faculty, and Staff may request books, scores, journal articles, or audio-visual materials not owned by Hopkins through interlibrary loan. Requests are made online at
Patrons are advised to plan for a minimum wait of 10 days for receipt of ILL materials.
Other JHU Patrons: Please request materials for interlibrary loan at your home (Hopkins) library.
Non-Johns Hopkins Libraries: The Arthur Friedheim Library accepts online requests through OCLC [JHP].
Use BorrowDirect to search and request materials from the Ivies Plus.
Expect delivery in 3-5 days. Six-week loan period. JHED log-in required.
JHU is now participating in the On-Site Borrowing Agreement with BorrowDirect Plus.
On-site borrowing privileges are available to current faculty, emeritus faculty, students, and staff of the Ivies Plus institutions listed below. Patrons must provide an institutional ID and log-in to their BorrowDirect account in order to verify their current status. Once verified by library staff, borrowers will be issued an affiliate ID card. Cards will be issued from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, but it is recommended that you contact the institution prior to your first library visit.
Affiliate cards will expire every year in May. BorrowDirect privileges do not include interlibrary loan services or remote access to JHU electronic and digital resources.

Most books and scores circulate to students, staff and affiliates for a 16-week period and to faculty for the school year. Audio-visual materials circulate to students for one week and to faculty for four weeks, but may be used in-house by anyone. Reserve materials circulate in-house for two hours.
If you are not affiliated with the Institute, or are an alumni:
- $25.00 annual Friedheim Library fee with current Peabody Alumni Association membership through June 30, 2017
- $50.00 annual Friedheim Library fee as of July 1, 2017
- $100.00 annual Friedheim Library fee for the general public
- Can be paid with cash or check during operating hours, or credit card during regular business hours
Current members of the Peabody Alumni Association may borrow materials from the Friedheim Library for $25.00/year through June 30th. As of July 1st the fee will be $50.00/year.
All JHU alumni have access to online journals, Grove Online, and more through Hopkins KnowledgeNET (HKNET), the Alumni Online Library.
